Steyning Artist Studio

A bespoke garden studio for a working artist, a practical example of how a brief for “studio space” becomes a piece of architecture in its own right.

The completed Steyning artist's studio, a dark-clad two-storey building with warm roof trim and large glazing, framed by trees.

The brief

A working studio for a practising artist. Light handling, storage, durability and the sense of a building that earns its keep day-to-day.

Project gallery

A measured 3D survey model of the existing studio space, annotated with room dimensions, used to plan the conversion.
A newly framed mono-pitch roof structure under construction on a wet day, with exposed rafters and scaffolding.
The completed Steyning artist's studio, clad in dark timber with a warm roof edge and full-height glazing, set in greenery.
