Frequently asked questions
Common questions from architects, self-builders and design-led homeowners considering a project with Tidal Drift.
Where does Tidal Drift work?
Tidal Drift is based in Sussex and primarily works across Sussex and surrounding areas. We may consider projects within a wider travel radius depending on project scope, complexity and fit.
What size of project do you take on?
We typically work on larger-scale bespoke projects, including architect-led extensions, new homes, structural timber builds, specialist outdoor structures and self-build support. Many projects are longer-term programmes and often sit in the region of £500k+ overall project value, although suitable specialist projects outside this range may also be considered.
What types of projects are the right fit for Tidal Drift?
We are best suited to technically considered, design-led and bespoke projects requiring collaboration, detailing, problem-solving and high-quality delivery. This includes new builds, extensions, self-build homes, garden rooms, timber structures and complex architectural construction projects.
Do you work with architects?
Yes. We regularly work alongside architects, designers, structural engineers and design-led homeowners. We are often involved early enough to advise on detailing, buildability, technical considerations and delivery planning.
Do you support self-build projects?
Yes. We provide practical support for self-builders, helping projects move from planning into construction. Depending on the project, this may include technical input, construction guidance, site setup, structural carpentry, project coordination and delivery support.
What makes Tidal Drift different from a typical builder?
Tidal Drift combines technical carpentry expertise, creative engineering and collaborative project delivery. Our approach is rooted in problem-solving, transparent communication, architectural understanding and hands-on project management. We work closely with clients and consultants throughout the process, rather than operating as a traditional contractor model.
Do you offer bespoke carpentry?
Yes. Bespoke carpentry sits at the heart of what we do. From structural timber work and specialist detailing to custom-built elements within larger construction projects, we deliver high-quality carpentry tailored to each project's design and technical requirements.
Do you build garden rooms?
Yes. We build premium bespoke garden rooms and architecturally considered outdoor structures. Each project is approached with the same level of craftsmanship, detailing and technical care as a larger extension or new build.
Do you offer interior design?
No. We do not provide standalone interior design services, but we regularly collaborate with architects, designers and specialist consultants as part of wider project teams.
Do you do renovations or loft conversions?
We selectively take on renovation and conversion work where it aligns with our expertise in bespoke, technically demanding and design-led construction. We do not operate as a volume renovation contractor.
What is a typical project timeline?
Project timelines vary depending on scale, complexity, planning requirements and programme. Many of our projects are medium- to longer-term builds involving significant coordination, technical detailing and staged delivery. Timelines are discussed during the enquiry and planning process.
How do you keep a record of the project?
We believe in clear, transparent communication throughout the build process. Depending on the project, this may include digital project updates, documented progress tracking, programme visibility and regular client communication.
How far do you travel for projects?
Our core working area is Sussex and neighbouring regions, but we are open to discussing projects further afield where the brief, scale and collaboration make the project a strong fit.
How do I get in touch about a project?
You can contact Tidal Drift through the website enquiry form. Providing information about your project type, location, stage of planning and project aspirations helps us understand how we can best support you.
Do you take on every project?
Not every project is the right fit for our approach or expertise. We focus on bespoke, collaborative and technically considered work. If we are not the right team for your project, we are happy to have a conversation and, where possible, point you in the right direction.
